2 Asian Led Movies Crazy Rich Asians and Searching are set to make a lot of money this labor day weekend. Crazy Rich Asians is set to take in an estimated $24 million during the labor day weekend while Searching will make an estimated $3.5 million – $7 million reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Crazy Rich Asians will pass the $100 million this weekend. The Jon M. Chu directed rom-com will take the top spot at the box office for the third straight week. Lenboy predicts the movie will make over $200 million domestic once it finishes it’s domestic run. That’s pretty good for a movie that box office analysts first thought was going to make around $70 million total.

Searching starring John Cho and directed by newcomer Aneesh Chagnaty is seeing better than expected results at the box office. With the help of Henry Golding and Jon M. Chu extending the #Goldopen to John Cho, Searching made $360,000 at only nine theaters last weekend, averaging $40,000 per screen. The movie made over $400,000 in its Thursday night after expanding to over 1000 screens reports Variety. It seems the John Cho vehicle will make closer to the upper end of its estimates than the lower end.

August 2018 has been a good month for Asian American movies. See you when the next Asian American movie comes out.
