Jia Jia at only 6 years old, takes care of her paralyzed father after her mother left them. Her father, Tian Haicheng, 38, was in a terrible car accident when the Taxi he was taking crashed into a ditch in 2016. This accident left Tian paralyzed from the chest down. He is now unable to walk and has minimal use of his arms and hands. His wife of seven years took their son and abandoned the two of them just two and a half months after the accident. “She told me on the day that she was going to stay in her mother’s home for a few days. But she never returned, and she took our son with her,” Tian said from his home in Ningxia Province China.

That’s when Jia Jia learned how to take care of her disabled father. She wakes up every day at 6 a.m and helps her father before she goes to school. She brushes his teeth, washes his face, and even shaves his face. “At the beginning, I didn’t know how to shave and I cut my dad’s face and it bled. But my dad said it wasn’t painful. Now, I’m very good at shaving his beard. My grandmother says I shave it very clean,” Jia Jia said.

She also helps him eat.
