Chinese actress, Shu Qi, is tired of people whitewashing her photos. The 42-year-old actress, who is one of the highest paid actors in China, snapped back at some fans on Weibo, reports Shanghaiist.
After Qi caught some of her photos looking extra white on Weibo, she wrote, “Why don’t you go be a fan of a white person?”
Good for Shu Qi for calling out whitewashing. People in Asia get too caught up in whitening their skin. Although I don’t think it’s as big as a problem as some people I’ve talked to, it’s refreshing to see a big star take a stand against it. Plus she looks better without the color correction.
There have been ongoing discussions on what Chinese beauty is. From recent debates on whether freckles is considered beautiful, many are arguing for more diversity of beauty in China that doesn’t just involve the ideal pale skin model.
