Amazon Studios picks up Chan Wook Park’s next movie “The Brigands of Rattlecreek”

One of my favorite working directors will get another shot to make another American movie. It is reported by Collider that Amazon Studios has picked up “The Brigands of Rattlecreek” with Chan Wook Park set to direct. Park has been attached to this script, which was named “The Brigands of Rattleborge,” before the name change for seven years. Producers are looking at Matthew McConaughey to star alongside another A-list movie star.

The script is written by Steven Craig Zahler who wrote violent cult classics “Bone Tomahawk” and “Brawl in Cell Block 99.” If you haven’t checked out these two violent movies give them a look. Bone Tomahawk has one of the nastiest ways to kill a human. It’s some pretty nasty stuff.

While Brawl in Cell Block 99 made Vince Vaughn look like a badass in one of the best prison exploitation movie I’ve ever seen.

So a violent script writer teamed up with the director of Oldboy, count me in. South Korean director, Chan Wook Park blew up internationally with his vengeance trilogy, “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,” “Lady Vengeance,” and “Oldboy.” These movies got him the opportunity to direct the American movie “Stoker” which was a so so movie. He returned back to South Korea and made “The Handmaiden” which was a critical success but lacked violence, instead it indulged in sex.

But with this script, Chan Wook Park will be returning to a violent spectacle that would really show off his talents. According to Collider the movie, “follows a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorize the occupants of a small town.”

A bloody revenge western movie is perfect for Chan Wook Park. It’s his wheelhouse and where he excels. I can’t wait to see The Brigands of Rattlecreek with it’s perfectly composed shots of sheer violence and terror.
