18 year old Anatham Pham aka ‘Ana’ and his team named OG has just won the International Dota 2 Championship in Canada. The team took home $15.3 million, making it the richest prize in game history. The team will split the prize evenly amongst the five players reports SBS News. Pham’s take, just over $3 million has brought this young man’s career total earnings to $3.8 million dollars.
Anatham Pham always knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. At the age of 16, he dropped out of school and moved from Victoria, Austrailia to China to become a professional Dota player.
“I never thought going pro was possible but sometimes dreams come true,” he told foxsports.com. He started playing at the age of 12 and knew he had to get out of Austrailia if he wanted to get better.
“Since the scene was so small and was impossible to go pro, I kinda just played with a bunch of friends and did some random ranked marathons on the holidays.”
So he ended up in Shanghai and joined a competition called CDEC League where he got noticed by a manager that hooked him up with a local team called Invictus Gaming Vitality. He and his team did well. Nonetheless, he had to split with the team because of his contract and rumors of beef with his teammates. Pham denies those reports.
At the same time, the team OG had lost some members to other teams and that’s when Tal, the Israeli captain of OF offered Pham a role in his team. This led to his move to Israel where he puts in up to 8 hours a day playing Dota.
That decision to go pro has now paid off handsomely as Pham joins the list of the highest paid athletes in Austrailia.
