What is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood About?

According to the plot of the movie is,

“Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood focuses on a male TV actor named Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) who’s had one hit western series and is looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick Cliff Booth (Pitt) — who’s also his stunt double — is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate (Rick’s neighbor in the film, portrayed by Robbie) and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story. The movie is said to be similar to a “Pulp Fiction-like tapestry” that covers a group of characters during that summer.”

I’m a big Tarantino fan and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of my most anticipated movies of next year. And having Bruce Lee show up in it makes it much cooler than I had hoped for. I didn’t even know that Bruce Lee had some kind of connection to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate until today. Apparently, Polanski suspected Bruce Lee had a hand in the murder of Sharon Tate.

How Bruce Lee fits in the picture

Before the murders, Roman Polanski took a liking to the martial arts icon. Bruce Lee ended up teaching martial arts to Polanski and helped train Sharon Tate in the martial arts for her role in The Wrecking Crew.

Polanski flew Bruce Lee to wherever he was at just so he could get personal lessons from the martial arts master. Bruce Lee told Black Belt Magazine,

Source: “It’s fantastic when arrangements are made by him,” said Lee to Black Belt magazine publisher Mito Uyehara. “I go to the airport and a chauffeur is waiting for me with his limousine. He takes me to the finest hotel and the next day he comes back to take me to the airport for my connecting flight. I don’t spend a penny and I live in luxury. Everything is so well planned that I hardly go through any hassle.”

“I didn’t realize how the ultra rich spend their time, until I visited that resort spot in Switzerland. The rich have a boring life, too. Drinking and skiing is about all they do. In between, everyone is trying to take someone to bed. I was the only Asian there; all the others were Europeans.

“Some of the girls were about 14 or 15 years old, making passes at the old guys who were at least mid-50s. At first, I thought it was kind of strange but later I learned that morals do not exist there. No, those kids weren’t their daughters. They could have been whores, I guess. I really don’t know why those kids weren’t in school. It was a strange situation.”

Their friendship came to an end after the Manson Family murdered Sharon Tate and 4 other people that were at the house that night. Roman Polanski started his own investigation into the murders after he was questioned by the police. He thought that the people closest to him including his friends were responsible for the murders. Bruce Lee came under suspicion when Bruce mentioned that he was missing his glasses to Polanski because during the murders a member of the Manson Family left a pair of glasses at the scene. Polanski tested the focal lengths of the glasses but it came back negative. Eventually, the Manson Family was arrested and sent to jail but Roman and Bruce were never close again.
