The biggest boy band in the world has another award to add to their already impressive mantle. The seven-member K-Pop band named BTS won the Reader’s Poll for Time Person of the Year. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, captured a little over 9% of the votes. They narrowly beat out “Planet Earth” by only 0.12% becoming the first K-Pop group to become Time Person of the Year, Reader Poll edition, reports Time.
It’s been an amazing year for the Korean boys who weren’t supposed to be as big as they are today. They weren’t even supposed to be a hit in Korea. However, the boys persisted and their message of love and acceptance transcended language and they became a worldwide sensation. Now they just finished a worldwide tour, where they sold out stadiums around the world, becoming the first K-Pop band to sell out stadiums in the United States. In addition, they had two number one albums on the Billboard charts, a first for a K-Pop band. On top of that, they spoke at the United Nations and became the first K-Pop band to score a Grammy Nomination.
With all this success, comes a lot of crazy fans. And those fans, called the BTS Army, helped BTS win the Time person of the Year, Readers Poll. They beat out people like the Thai Cave Divers, another S. Korean president Moon Jae In, North Korean Kim Jung Un, another South Korean Sandra Oh, just to name a few. Additionally, they beat out other pop artists like Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift. Furthermore, they beat out political people like Christine Blasey Ford, Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Michael Cohen, and Stormy Daniels.
