British Newspaper, The Times, wrote an article on BTS that came out this weekend. When the article hit, many BTS fans thought the article was condescending and insulting reports Pop Buzz. The article which shines a light on the group and the K-Pop industry is being dragged by the BTS army. Although the article has some positive things to say about BTS, the negative aspects stick out.

One aspect is when the interviewer mocks RM’s English. BTS fans were not happy with the author making fun of RM’s English abilities. Rm is the only member of BTS to speak English fluently and learned it by watching Friends. “He does indeed speak with impregnable confidence and faultless intonation, although (despite the claim of my fan guide that he has an IQ of 148) his occasionally baffling syntax gives the impression that he is channeling Joey rather than Chandler,” he wrote.  On the show Friends, Joey was the stupid buffoon.

Another aspect in the article that the BTS Army did not like was the focus on their relationship or lack thereof. “None of them has a girlfriend or the prospect of finding one.” The author alludes to contracts that forbid its artists to have a significant other under the belief that they would lose fan appeal. He asked the boys about these contracts but V said, “That story [about no-dating clauses] is like the unicorn. No one has actually seen one.” The author counters this claim by citing two stars HynaA and K’Dawn who were fired after they were caught in a relationship.

Another criticism the BTS Army didn’t like, was that the author implied that BTS were like surgically enhanced robots. They were basically puppets controlled by their labels and managers. “Even now, the seven of them live in the same house (two of them still share a room), eat together and spend all their spare time in one another’s company, overseen by a corps of managers, assistants and minders,” the author wrote.

“It was so technically perfect, so shorn of rough edges or spontaneity, that I began to wonder why I was there. There was no improvisation, no reverb or feedback,” the author said of BTS’s live performance.

The BTS Army let their voices be heard on the matter. Here are some of their tweets.
