Chinese company Alibaba has a new way of cutting down pornography in China.  The new porno recognition AI scours the internet listening for grunts and moans while recording many languages and comparing it to words used in pornography. In addition to listening, the AI scans hundreds of images every day looking for pornographic content according to Yicai Global.

China has a no pornography policy and it has been using humans to police the web. These workers would watch the web and look for pornography and ban it. Now with the assistance of AI, the poor humans who have to sit through hours and hours of porn every day will get a heavy load off with the AI giving them a hand.

Wei Shi, a senior engineer at Alibaba’s security division has said,

“For example, if we need to review, say, 400 million images a day, a human appraiser can process 10,000 images per day and 40,000 people are needed. By contrast, the software means human workers only need to review 200,000 images in total, so the total headcount will be lowered to 20 people.”

The robots won’t take all human jobs. Humans are still needed to understand the context and the nuances of some of the more questionable materials. So robots will do the hard work while humans will back them up. Humans and robots will work side by side to ensure the Chinese people are not subjugated to that dirty porn.
