A Chinese kindergarten principal got fired for hiring pole dancers to perform on the opening day of school. Lai Rong, the principal at Xinshahui kindergarten in Bao’an district of Shenzhen thought it was a good idea to have a half-naked woman dance on a pole to welcome the children and their families to the school. Well, it turned out she was wrong because the families didn’t take too kindly of it and asked for her removal reports abc.net.au.

Michael Standaert Posted The Footage On His Twitter Of A Dancing Pole Dancer

China-based, American Writer Michael Standaert posted the footage on his twitter which has since gone viral. The footage shows a woman in skimpy black clothing dancing around a pole in front of children and their parents. The kids didn’t seem to mind but the mothers quickly took their children from the respective area.

Parents Demanded Answers

After all the attention the video got the local education board told the principal to apologize. Lai Rong issued an apology to the parents saying she thought, “inviting professional dancers to the kindergarten to perform for the parents would liven up the mood. I did not think through the contents of the performance … It was a very terrible viewing experience for the kids and the parents. For that, I sincerely apologize.”

Lai told the Washingon Post, “I was thinking of asking the forgiveness from the parents and also promising them that we would not teach the kids this kind of dance. I just want the kids to know the existence of this kind of dance. That’s all.”

My Thoughts

In the scheme of things, this dance wasn’t too bad and the principal shouldn’t have gotten fired. I do believe she really is sorry and that she made an honest mistake. She probably thought the parents would laugh at it. It’s not like the dancer was stripping. She has on more clothing than a Laker girl and also has a much less provocative dance.

The real problem is the pole. The pole has been unfairly stereotyped to be associated with strippers. If there was no pole there, there would’ve been no problem. Just look at that footage again and imagine the pole not there. Suddenly, it’s just a girl dancing. But props to the girl dancing and not missing a beat in front of those kids with their jeering parents knowing full well how they were unfairly judging her.
