CONAN O’ BRIEN EXPLAINS HIS PROBLEMS WITH ‘DETECTIVE CONAN’
Late night host Conan O’ Brien took to Google a couple nights ago to google his name ‘Conan’. His name came out as the top search listing everywhere except in Japan. Instead, a manga named ‘Detective Conan’ came out on top. So when Conan O’ Brien got on his television show he called out the popular anime.
Conan O’ Brien first noted the similarities between the two. ‘Detective Conan’ is about a man stuck in a child’s body and solves crime. “Man stuck in a child’s body, Conan, hello…”, Conan O’ Brien said waving his hand. He also noted that the anime was created a year after he came on the air in 1993. So Conan O’ Brien started a war with the manga declaring it a ripoff of him.
The popular anime since it’s inception has had live-action movie adaptations, cafes named after it, and a town named Hokuei town nicknamed “Conan Town” due to it being the birthplace of the creator. Conan felt ripped off and asked for 3 trillion yen from Japan which comes out to around 27 billion dollars.
Since then the mayor of Hokuei replied on their Facebook page that if he wanted the money he had to come visit the town.
CONAN LAYS OUT HIS DEMANDS
Conan agreed but only if his conditions were met.
The first being that he wanted the most popular coin laundry in his town to change it’s name to “American Conan’s Fluff N’ Fold.”
The second demand was a key to the city. “I want the key to the city and not only that I want the keys to the homes of everybody in the twenty-mile radius.”
And his last demand was that they change the iconic ‘Detective Conan’ statue in the town to something that looks more like the host.
With all three demands met and three trillion yen Conan declared that he’ll visit the city.
THE MAYOR LAYS OUT HIS DEMANDS
Hokuei mayor Aiko Matsumoto has since gone on Facebook and made demands of his own. In English he said that Japan has no such things as “keys to the city” but he does have a stash that will allow Conan’s wishes to come true.
But if Conan wanted the stash he had to do three things.
First is putting the mayor’s face right next to Lincoln at Mount Rushmore.
Second, the mayor wanted his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
And finally, he wanted fifteen thousand American hamburgers for each of the town’s residents.
Now, this is a trade war I’m up for. The ball’s in your court Conan O’ Brien.
