Crazy Rich Asians takes the top spot at the box office for the third straight weekend bringing in around $22.1 million dollars. The movie is expected to bring in a little over $6 million for Labor Day bringing the total up to 28.1 million and eventually topping $117 million reports Deadline. The film just dropped a mere 11% from last weekend’s total of $24.8 million.

Crazy Rich Asians has also brought in another $20 million from international theaters bringing its grand total to around $137 million. The highest amount came from Australia where it brought in more than $5 million making it the highest debut for a rom-com with only Mamma Mia 2 making a bigger splash overseas.

I predicted that the movie will close out its domestic theater run with $185 million while lenboy predicted it’ll pass $200 million dollars. So far I’m sticking with my bet. What do you guys think? Will it pass $200 million or will the grand total be a little shy of $200 million.

Searching, the John Cho starring thriller also did better than expected. It brought in $7.65 million over the four day period beating early estimates that had Searching making at most $7 million. Both movies brought in a lot of money beating expectations. We shall see how far these movies go especially Crazy Rich Asians. So see you next week.
