David Beckham’s son, Brooklyn Beckham, has been accused of racism by Chinese netizens after he posted a couple of Instagram posts to his 11.6 million followers. The 19-year-old who was on vacation in Venice, posted two pictures on his Instagram account of Chinese people in Italy, reports SCMP. The first image was of a Chinese girl in an Italian supermarket and the other one was of Chinese tourists on a gondola. He posted the pictures with the caption, “No place like Italy innit”.
The backlash he received forced him to delete the posts and set his account to private. Many wondered why he singled out “Asian looking” tourists while others demanded an apology for his racist behavior. One commenter on Weibo wrote “An Englishman in Italy saying it’s not like Italy. Isn’t that a double standard.”
Brooklyn is an aspiring model after he failed to be a professional soccer player like his father. Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei paid the 19-year-old $131,000 to star in an ad campaign. While Vogue China put him on its cover in 2016. One commenter said, “never come to China to fish for money again.”
His famous parents, soccer superstar David Beckham and singer Victoria Beckham, were called out on social media for their son’s behavior. A Chinese Netizen wrote, “What’s wrong with your son?” While others claimed they were bad parents. Brooklyn’s parents have not issued a statement regarding the matter.
One user pretty much summed up Brooklyn Beckham. “Without his dad, who would recognize him? He really has no character.”
