The “falling stars” challenge is taking over the Chinese internet. The challenge which started out in Russia are people pretending to have fallen down and taking a picture of it. It’s usually done by rich people who pretend to have fallen out of their car or jet while spilling their expensive accessories all over the floor.
Two women surnamed Chen decided to do the “falling stars” challenge in a busy street. One of them got out of her car, spread out her Gucci handbag, her red heeled shoes, and makeup on the street and pretended to trip out of the car while the other filmed it. Both were arrested and were fined $21 reports the SCMP. This wasn’t the first time someone was fined for the challenge in China. Another woman was fined earlier for $29 for pretending to fall out of her Aston Martin.
The “falling stars” challenge is better known as the “flaunt your wealth” challenge in China. The challenge is a way to flaunt your wealth in a humorous way. Influencers and rich children post pictures of themselves, face down on the floor surrounded by luxury items, with their feet still in their car hoping to go viral. But the challenge is not for rich people only.
People with less wealth has gotten in on the fun and are making fun of the rich kids with their version of the “falling stars” challenge. For example, the picture below shows a soldier lying face down with cleaning equipment surrounding him.
From students to office workers everyone seems to be having fun with it.
The challenge is the latest craze to sweep China but it has also sparked discussions on the wealth gap. Many see it as a way for the rich to once again find another way to flaunt their wealth. They believe people should be a lot more humble like Chow Yun-fat. While others see it as just a fun way to take a picture.
