Japanese Billionaire Yusaku Maezawa Set Record For Most Retweeted Tweet

Yusaku Maezawa sends out record-breaking tweet

Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa, set a new record for the most retweeted tweet. He offered $9000 to 100 random people who retweeted his tweet and followed him. The tweet was in celebration of his company Zozotown doing record business over the holiday season bringing in over 10 billion yen ($92,000,000). Yusaku Maezawa said that he would DM the winners after the contest ended on January 7th, 2018. Unsurprisingly the tweet took off and as of now, it has over 5.6 million retweets.

Once he discovered that he set the record for the most retweets, he thanked his retweeters.

He’ll now pay over $900,000 to the lucky one hundred retweeters. A lot of money, but the man is worth around $3 billion so he’ll be fine. He made the bulk of his fortune through his website Zozotown which is an online fashion retailer. He will also be the first passenger to fly with Elon Musk to space on Space X in 2023.

The old retweet record holders

As for the old retweet record, that goes to Carter Wilkerson, who sent out a tweet asking for free Wendy’s chicken nuggets. In the tweet dated April 5, 2017, he wrote, “Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?”

Wendy’s replied back, “18 million” to which Wilkerson tweeted back “Consider it done.” Unfortunately, Wilkerson fell short of that number, however, he did grab the record for the most retweets in May of 2017, when his tweet garnered over, 3.5 million retweets.

Additionally, Wendy’s announced that Carter Wilkerson would receive a year’s worth of chicken nuggets even though he fell way short of that number, reports Quartz.

Wilkerson beat the old record holder, Ellen DeGeneres, for her Oscar pic, which garnered over 3,3 million retweets back in 2014.

But now, Wilkerson no longer gets free chicken nuggets and his record has been demolished. Meanwhile, the rich get richer and the poor can’t even get free chicken nuggets anymore!
