Las Vegas police are looking for a white woman in her 20s who is accused of killing a nail salon owner. The victim, Vietnamese American, Nhu “Annie” Nguyen, 53, was murdered when the suspect ran out on her bill at “Crystals Nails and Spa” In Las Vegas, Nevada and ran her over. The unidentified suspect mowed her down with her car in the parking lot and dragged her 50 feet leading to her death.
On December 29, the suspect entered Crystals Nails and Spa and got a $35 manicure. She tried to use her credit card to pay for the service but the card was declined. The suspect told the owner, Nhu Nguyen, she would get the money from her car. But when she got to her rental car she attempted to get away, reports Las Vegas Review Journal.
Nhu Nguyen and her boyfriend of 13 years, Sonny Chung, ran outside to try to stop the suspect. Nguyen, who is a mother of three, stood in front of the car and told the suspect to get out and pay for the bill. But the suspect ran her over and dragged her about 50 feet.
“She and I both ran outside to stop her after her credit card had been declined and she was trying to drive away,” Chung told the Daily Beast. “But she continued to drive toward my wife. I tried to stop the car with my hands but she kept moving.”
Nhu Nguyen was taken to the University Medical Center where she died of multiple blunt force injuries.
Police shared that the suspect is a white woman in her mid-20s. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Ray Spencer told reporters that they found the abandoned car hours after the homicide. The car, a black Chevrolet Camaro, was reported stolen from a rental agency three weeks ago. Investigators are looking through surveillance videos and following leads to identify her.
Nhu Nguyen arrived to the United States as a Vietnamese refugee. As a single mother, she raised three daughters and traveled the country before settling down in Las Vegas two years ago. The mother of three worked 7 days a week, 15 hours a day, at the nail salon to take care of her family. All she wanted was more grandchildren. Her children set up a gofundme to help pay for her funeral.
Sonny Chung told the Daily Beast, “She was so proud of our nail salon and even though her family was visiting, she couldn’t stay away. We just want justice for her and answers as to why someone who kill her over a billing dispute.”
Nhu Nguyen is survived by her daughters’ ages, 20, 25, and 28, and two grandchildren, ages 4 and 6. Her children and grandchildren were in town from California to spend time with her during the holidays. They have asked for privacy during this difficult time.
