Olivia Munn talks about Brett Ratner in front of a panel
During the Emily’s List pre-Oscars brunch at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, Olivia Munn clarified her sexual abuse allegations against Brett Ratner. According to Variety, the actress recalled how Brett Ratner called her before his Howard Stern interview in 2011 to apologize to Munn about his alleged sexual relationship with her. This was after Munn released her book which entailed a story about a Hollywood director who masturbated in front of her. Although she didn’t name the director at the time, many suspected it was Brett Ratner. This dovetailed into Brett Ratner going on television to deny the accusations of unwanted masturbation and gloating about sleeping with Olivia Munn. Since the #MeToo movement, Ratner has been called out by many women for sexually harassing and abusing them while he was in power.
Olivia Munn writes a memoir
Back in 2010, Olivia Munn wrote a book called, “Suck It, Wonder Woman!: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek.” The memoir told of her adventures in Hollywood but one scintillating passage stuck out. She recalled a time when an unidentified director unwillingly masturbated in front of her while eating shrimp in his trailer on a movie set. In the book, according to Uproxx, she wrote, “And I remember first noticing him wearing an Oxford shirt and holding a fistful of cocktail sauce-smothered shrimp. He popped one down his throat and then another…
And this is where things crossed over from merely disturbing to downright horrific-that was the exact moment I noticed what was either a tiny gnarled doggie toy or this adult’s penis being stroked by his own stubby hand …
He was masturbating. Right there. With shrimp in one hand. And me standing in front of him. Masturbating. Masturbating. I’m not even kidding.”
People guessed that it was Brett Ratner on the set of his 2004 movie “After the Sunset” and at that time nothing much came of it. However, in 2011 when Ratner was doing his press tour for his latest film, “Tower Heist” he ended up on G4’s “Attack of the Show” which Olivia was a co-host at.
Brett Ratner says that he was the director in the book
Olivia Munn wasn’t there at the time but Brett Ratner was asked about the passage in the book. He told Munn’s co-host that he was the unidentified director in the book but he denied masturbating in front of her, however, he claimed to have had sex with her, according to HuffPo. “I used to date Olivia Munn, I’ll be honest with everyone here. But when she was ‘Lisa,” she wasn’t Asian back then,” he said. “She was hanging out on my set of ‘After the Sunset,’ I banged her a few times, but I forgot her. Because she changed her name. I didn’t know it was the same person so when she auditioned for me for a TV show, I forgot her, she got pissed off, and so she made up all these stories about me eating shrimp and masturbating in my trailer. And she talked about my shortcomings.”
Brett Ratner calls Olivia Munn before his Howard Stern Interview
His statement at the time blew up and Munn denied sleeping with him. The statement did get him in some trouble with the Academy, Disney, and Universal. Consequently, according to Munn, Ratner called her up asking her to go on her Twitter and say everything was good between them. Munn recalled to the pre-Oscar’s brunch panel that, “I’ve never told any of this story publicly. I’m in my hotel room in New York and I get this Caller ID blocked number, and I answer the phone and it’s Brett.
“He said, ‘I was joking about that. It’s just a joke and it got blown out of proportion.’
“He said, ‘Well look, we did date though, right?’ and I said, ‘No.’ And he’s like, ‘Are you sure we didn’t date?’ And at this point, I had this feeling that he was recording the conversation.”
Munn told him that they didn’t date and refused to go with his side of the story. This prompted Ratner to apologize and he told her that he would make a public apology on the Howard Stern show the next day.
“I remember this feeling that that was it, that was the ring I could grab onto,” she said. “I said ‘Yes, tell them that you lied and we never dated.”
Brett Ratner ended the call telling Olivia Munn, “I am sorry, I just don’t know why everyone’s so mad at me.”
To which Munn replied, “Because you live life as if we’re all in your movie, and everyone that comes into your atmosphere is under your rule,” Munn responded. “But the moment you came after me, you came under my rule. And this isn’t going to be your moment in your world, this is going to be my moment in my world. And in my world, guys like you go home crying.”
The next day according to the EW, Ratner apologized on the Howard Stern show. He told Howard Stern, “I said I banged her three times, which wasn’t true. She’s actually talented. The problem is I made her look like she’s a whore.” This was back in 2011 and Brett Ratner continued on with his career.
Olivia Munn calls out Brett Ratner during #MeToo
However, during the #MeToo movement, Olivia Munn and multiple women accused Brett Ratner of sexual misconduct. He denied the charges and his lawyer told the LA Times that Ratner and Munn did have “an intimate relationship.” Munn once again denied that they were in a relationship and said that it was “a complete lie.”
Ever since then, Ratner has been ousted from Hollywood following the sexual abuse allegations. Munn, on the other hand, called out another director Shane Black for not informing her that she was working with a sex offender during the shooting of “The Predator.”
