A Pakistani man is forced to live in seclusion because people fear the man with 100’s of tumors is infectious. Ameer Ali suffers from a severe case of neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes lumps to go grow on nerve tissue. Although, the disorder is noncontagious¬†people still fear the man¬†believing he can pass on the disease. The 32-year-old from Pakistan’s Sindh province has had this condition since he was a child. At that time he only had small tumors on his stomach and back, but as he grew older the tumors grew bigger and he started to get the tumors from his head to his toes reports the Daily Mail. There is no known cure for this rare condition.

When the tumors got bigger and cover him all over, he decided to leave his home because he didn’t want to bring shame to his family.

He told the local reporters,

“Though I had these bubble-like tumors since my childhood they never affected my life as they were small in size. I was living happily with my wife and two young daughters. But at the age of 25, the tumors started spreading to my legs, arms, neck, head and even face and soon my wife lost interest in me. In order to save my daughters from shame I left my home.”¬†

Ali left home to avoid embarrassing his family but there was nowhere in the public he could go without people thinking he was some kind of monster. Even his friends ignored him.

“People fear that I might infect them. My friends, neighbors stopped talking to me. Nobody would give me work. The worst thing was when a few years back when I visited a tea stall in the neighborhood and observed that my friends, with whom I used to work and have tea since my childhood wouldn’t talk to me,” he told a local reporter. “One day the owner of the tea stall called me and said that because of me his business is getting affected and that I must not come here.”

Humiliated, he left town but he couldn’t find a place to settle. One town after another he got the same horrible treatment. Nobody would hire him because of his condition.

Fortunately, he got a call from his cousin who had a job for him in a small village in Nawabshah town. The cousin would give him a job at his home as domestic help until somebody hired him. But the same thing happened at the beginning where nobody would hire him. However, that would change when a farmer hired him. Now he takes care of goats for $21 a month.
