San Jose police arrested a man who they said targeted Asian women for their purses. 26-year-old Pablo Cabrera was arrested after he was allegedly caught on surveillance video snatching a purse from his most recent victim. The terrifying video shows the victim being dragged down the stairs by a man, with her child in hand.
Surveillance video showed the victim, an Asian woman, with her daughter walking up a flight of stairs in the 1500 block of Tower Lane in San Jose, CA, on May 6, reports KCRA. The suspect walked up behind them and snatched the victim’s purse. However, the woman was unable to let go in time and this caused the mother and her daughter to be violently pulled down the stairs and dragged. It is not clear at this time if the mother and daughter suffered any serious injuries.
The San Jose police said the suspect fled the crime scene in a black 4 door Lexus.
Police canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses. Using the surveillance video, the suspect’s description, and the way he robbed the woman, police concluded Pablo Cabrera was the suspect. Investigators connected him to several purse snatchings where Asian women with expensive purses were the victims.
San Jose Police said in a press release, “All of Cabrera’s victims were Asian females carrying expensive purses. Cabrera attacked victims from behind, grabbed their purse, and ran to his car.”
On May 11, the police arrested Pablo Cabrera at his home in San Jose. Investigators found other evidence linking him to other robberies in the area.
Chief Eddie Garcia said, “We are fortunate this predator was caught before any more members of the public were victimized. I am incredibly proud of the work of our Robbery detective and the continued work the men and women of the San Jose Police Department do on a daily basis.”
Cabrera was taken to the Santa Clara County jail for robbery and parole violation. He was already on parole for burglary.
