Portland police are looking for purse snatchers who are allegedly targeting elderly Asian women. The suspects seem to be working the Jade District in Portland where it is believed they have stolen from over 12 elderly Asian women since December. According to KOIN, the thefts have been around the intersection of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street.
The editor of the Portland Chinese Times, Rosaline Hui said that there might be more victims. She fears that the victims are unable to come forward due to the language barrier. In addition, she said that the news of the crime has scared the woman of the community. Some are afraid to leave their homes alone because of the fear of getting robbed. Two elderly Asian women were hurt during the robberies.
“She heard them say ‘catch her’ and then that guy comes from behind, pushes her, and then she fell down,” Hui told KOIN recalling a story of one woman’s robbery.
Surveillance video caught who police believe are the alleged suspects. The suspects were caught on camera using a victim’s stolen credit card. They are described as 4 black males with tall thin builds around the age of 16 and 20.
Portland police are going undercover in the Jade district hoping to catch the Portland purse snatchers. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects. Call 503-823-4357 if you have any information. All information can be submitted anonymously.
