The Prime Minister of Singapore is the highest paid world leader

The leader of Singapore is making some big money leading the least corrupt country in the world. The Prime Minister of Singapore is the highest paid leader in the world, according to USA Today. Lee Hsien Loong makes $1,610,000 in one year. This is down from his previous salary of $2,856,930 from 2008 to 2012, reports Wikipedia. But the people of Singapore expressed their unhappiness with his high salary and he had to take a pay cut. Still, pretty, pretty good for Loong who makes nearly three times as much as the second highest paid world leader in the world.

Lee Hsien Loong has been in office for nearly 15 years so he’s got a big bag stashed up. However, Singapore is the most expensive city in the world so his money doesn’t go as far. Nevertheless, making over a million dollars is making a million dollars, so he’ll be fine financially.

In second place is another Asian person, but this time from Hong Kong. Carrie Lam makes $568,400 as the Chief Executive of Hong Kong.

She became the first woman to lead Hong Kong when she came into power in 2017. She’s been Chief Executive of Hong Kong for less than 2 years so her bag isn’t as big as Loong, but she’s still bringing in a lot of dough.

Compared to the President of the United States, she makes at least $150,000 more than President Trump. The President of the United States comes in fourth place with $400,000. In third place is the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ueli Maurer who makes $482,958.

USA today gathered the annual salaries from country’s websites, International Monetary Fund, and the CIA World Factbook. They only listed the top 20 highest paid leaders and no other Asian leaders made the list. However, checking out Wikipedia’s “List of salaries of heads of state and government,”¬†here are some of the highest paid leaders of Asian countries who aren’t leaders of Singapore and Hong Kong.

The President of South Korea, Moon Jae In, makes $210,000 annually.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, makes $202,700 annually.

While the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-Wen makes $180,000 annually.

And of course, our favorite president of the whole world, Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, makes $99,554.
