There is a band of Indian Women who are targeting Indian American business owners for their jewelry. The unidentified women are traveling across the country robbing Indian Americans of their expensive jewelry reports Fox8. Their latest victim was hotel owners in Norwalk, Ohio. “This group is very organized. They’re probably moving onto another location and are going to do the same thing,” Sgt Seth Fry told Fox.
The owners of Norwalk Inn were able to catch the thieves on surveillance video right before they were robbed. In the video, four women are seen coming out of a van.
Two women enter the hotel inquiring about rooms and prices.
Two more women enter the hotel lobby.
The four women chat up the hotel owner keeping her busy. Two women then leave the lobby and sneak into the owners living quarters while the other two women keep the business owner distracted.
They were able to steal about $20000 worth of jewelry.
The van the thieves were using was found in a nearby farm but the license plates were removed and all fingerprints were wiped clean.
Police believe the suspects are using online records to find Indian American business owners. They also believe that the suspects are converting the jewelry to cash by pawning it or melting it down and selling it. “They could take it to a pawn shop. They could take it to a jeweler and have it melted down and made into something else, there’s many different ways they could get rid of that,” Sgt. Fry told Fox. The police have released the surveillance video hoping someone can help identify the thieves.
On the positive, at least these women aren’t using violence to rob people. Seems like it’s the most polite way to steal one’s jewelry. However, these women are robbing jewelry like it’s Ocean’s 8, except all of them are played by Mindy Kaling.
