Warner Bros, the studio behind Crazy Rich Asians are getting the old team back to work on the sequel according to Deadline. Due to the big box office success over the 5 day start of the movie, Warner Bros has brought back director John M. Chu and writers Adele Lim and Peter Chiarelli to work on the screenplay.
The sequels will be adapted from Kevin Kwan’s follow up books, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems.
The sequels haven’t been greenlit just yet but it seems only a matter of time. It’s still contingent on the overall total box office and the follow-up script.
Nina Jacobson told Deadline last weekend,
“Let the audience ask for the sequel. We’d love to make one, but not unless the audience asks for it, and hopefully they will this weekend.”
The audience definitely asked for it when they came out to a total of 36 million dollars for the first five days, starting the movie off with a big bang at the box office. Along with positive feedback and a hardcore audience, it looks like we will get two more movies to hang with the Crazy Rich Asians
